Dan McConkey is a saxophonist and composer active in the London contemporary jazz scene. Dan has performed at venues such as Abbey Road, Ronnie Scotts, Pizza Express Live and as a soloist with Capital Orchestra at Cadogan Hall. He currently leads his own quartet, playing his own compositions and arrangements. His own music revolves around a fusion between traditional British and Irish folk and contemporary jazz. Across his career, Dan has performed with a host of international artists including Lianne Carroll, Rufus Reid, Sam Leak and Anthony Strong and is equally adept on alto and tenor saxophones and doubles on flute, clarinet, guitar and piano.
Dan is a busy sideman across different scenes and genres, working with contemporaries such as bluesman Will James, folk singer-songwriter Poppy Prescott and London jazz drummer Gwilym Jones. Dan has also produced, engineered and co-written for indie artists and regularly undertakes session work. He is an experienced teacher and has a full teaching studio across 5 instruments.
Dan graduated with a first class degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2019. Whilst there, Dan studied with world-class musicians such as Iain Ballamy, Trish Clowes, Jean Toussaint and Gareth Lochrane. At Guildhall, he lead the saxophone section in the Big Band for two years.
